Initiatives

Slow Food Toronto is a volunteer organization that hosts events and supports initiatives that support the social, environmental and economic benefits of sharing good, clean and fair food within a community of producers and eaters.

Through our activities and in partnership with like-minded organizations,  we sometimes sponsor community initiatives that are in line with Slow Food philosophies. We also host Toronto’s Terra Madre Day, Slow Food’s annual day to celebrate local and sustainable food practices and traditions (held December 10th of each year). Past Slow Food Toronto initiatives include supporting learning gardens in Toronto and Africa; organizing and fundraising for the Slow Food Toronto delegation to attend Terra Madre; organizing a ‘Picnic at the Brick Works’ fundraiser; organizing a series of Chef’s dinners in Toronto; and efforts to promote sustainable seafood production and consumption through Slow Fish.
